About Catherine McIntyre
For as long as I can remember, sport, athletics and fitness has been an integral part of my life, from competing in track & field events, playing on sports teams and being taught how to downhill ski by my father.
The team building, the camaraderie, the discipline, and the bonds created, shaped my life and built confidence.
People say that sports are a great tool for teaching life lessons. In my case they were a tool that I used to develop confidence, self-awareness, and build solid, lifelong bonds.
It also taught me discipline, commitment and accountability.
I spent a few months out west in basic training in the Navy a few years back, and during that time I saw how those early lessons I learned helped me cope with challenges that came my way.
I’ve been a dedicated runner, especially in the early hours of the day, always with a four legged companion
It wasn’t until recent years that I started noticing some aches and pains that I never felt in the past. One of my knees started bothering me so I started looking at alternate ways of training. I discovered that my muscles weren’t “firing correctly”, I wasn’t doing any strengthening exercises besides running, that led to my body being off “balance” . I had weaknesses in my quad muscles and my glute muscles, in addition to weaknesses I was well aware of in my upper body. My legs were strong, but I knew that I wanted to find something that would help me improve my overall strength and to achieve and maintain optimal health.
I didn’t want to give up running altogether because I really enjoyed it. I wanted something that wasn’t intimidating , something that I knew I could handle and not feel overwhelmed or out of place. I started training in intervals, boot camp style and I started feeling better than I had in years. I still ran but just one day a week and I found the right formula for me. “Boot camp”, interval training was the answer I was searching for. All the things I didn’t realize I was missing- the enthusiasm, the passion and the amazing feeling it brought back by actually seeing the definition come back to my body.
I had that fire back, the drive to train and strive to make myself better. The most eye opening thing to me was that I was in better shape than I was 10 years ago.
The most rewarding part about this is that I see everyone,from young hockey players, to the 40 years+individuals that want to achieve optimal health. Not only do I see an increase in strength, mobility and confidence I see people grow an inner strength that they bring back to their daily lives.
Belleville Fit Body Boot Camp is my passion now, it brings back all the feelings I had from years gone by and made me realize once again that if you surround yourself with positive and supportive people, you can find that balance that enhances your life.
